Agios Ioannis beach
Agios Ioannis beach with its emerald waters is an attraction pole for both locals and tourists alike. You find it right after the Gyra beach and the Windmills located there, in the north west of the island and in just 2km distance from the city of Lefkada. It is located very close to the lagoon that belongs to the Natura 2000 network. The beautiful wetland hosts many rare bird species and is protected by the Ramsar convention.
Activities
During the months of summer the beach is incredibly popular for sea sports like kitesurf, windsurf, sup, canoe and kayak. It extends lengthy and that makes it ideal for an enjoyable swim, walk, joggin, horseriding etc. A part of the beach is organised with a lifeguard and a Blue Flag status (2019).
Along the beach you can find taverns offering local dishes, cafeterias and beach bars for all hours of the day but also for your night time entertainment.
At the end of it the homonymous chapel of Agios Ioannis (St John), built within a cave, at the outs of a lush hill slope.
The whole place is an ideal place for daily explorations in the magnificent beaches of the island like Myloi, Agios Nikitas, Kathisma, Gyalos, Egremnoi, Porto Katsiki at the west side of it, but also to the eastern beaches Desimi, Mikros Gyalos, Syvota, Ammousa, Aniofylli.
How to get here
By car
Through Ionia Odos, from the junction of Philippiada or the junction of Ampilochia (open the map link for driving directions).
By plane
Through Aktio Airport (PVK), about 20km distance, and then by taxi or rented car.
By boat
Through Nydri port (connection with Kefallonia and Ithaka islands).
